An active needle drive is not required for the scratch marking process because of the spring mounted, pre-tensioned marking needle. The workpiece is marked by a combination of material compression and displacement. As soon as the point of the needle is brought into contact with the workpiece, the needle penetrates the surface of the material with a defined pre-tension pressure. Even uneven marking surfaces can be generated with a consistent marking depth. This is due to the consistent pre-tension pressure of the spring-mounted marking needle. The needle pressure can easily be adjusted to reach the desired result.
The R-20 is suitable for relatively fine markings on surfaces that are either smooth or uneven.
Applications
For use in machine tools, automatic lathes, etc. – no additional installation required
Suitable materials
Light metals, iron casting, ductile iron casting, steel, Inconel (practically all machinable materials up to approximately 62 HRC)
Benefits
- Very high process reliability
- Shorter turnaround time
- No missed or incorrect markings
- A non-cutting process that does not weaken the material
- Practically no maintenance required
Facts
- Integrated, automatic distance compensation up to approx. 6 mm
- Marking depth can be individually preset using the adjustment sleeve (with a scale for precise, repeatable preload adjustment)
- Very short marking times are possible thanks to a high marking frequency and a feed rate of over 5‘000 mm/min
- The marking needle, made of tungsten carbide (material hardness 92 HRC), offers very high wear resistance
- The needle can be easily replaced in just a few simple steps

Accessories
- Replacement marking needles with standard angle of 90°
